Classes

Classes at the Quaker Meeting House have been suspended as of 16th March 2020 due to the Coronavirus. When they restart there will be a new notification here. We wish everyone well. 

If recent attendees at Worcester Buddhist Centre classes would like to attend their usual classes but via Zoom (video conferencing) please let Viryanaya or Nibbhaya know or email the Worcester Buddhist Centre  at Worcesterbuddhistcentre@googlemail.com. Please state which class you have been attending; either the Introductory or Regulars classes (Thursday or Saturday). On online video conference facility there will be room for a maximum of 10 people.

We will be meditating and looking into various themes of Buddhism and how they relate to the world we live. It is recommended you have been on the Introduction course or you have experience in the mindfulness of breathing meditation and Loving Kindness meditation.

You will find a friendly welcoming atmosphere on our courses and if you can’t make all the sessions you will still be welcome to attend when you can.

Thursday Introduction Online Course

Introduction to Buddhism and Meditation
Thursday Evenings from the 18th June 2020: 7:30pm to 8:30pm

This introductory course is led by Nibbhaya open to anyone interested in exploring Buddhism and Meditation. We will be looking at two meditations, one to develop increased awareness (mindfulness) and one to increase positive emotion (basically to increase kindness to ourselves and others)

What to Expect

No prior knowledge is expected.

Meditations will be on body sensation awareness, awareness of the breath and also cultivating kindness. The purpose of these is to develop calm, awareness of oneself and others, kindness and understanding of our human situation with the aim of reducing suffering.

Meditations last from a few minutes to around 20 minutes.

Central Buddhist themes: the role of meditation, what makes actions ethical and what wisdom is from a Buddhist perspective.

We relate Buddhist teaching to everyday life.

Interactive and informal sessions.

Although there will be a thread through the sessions the idea is you can drop in at any time.

 

Conditions you will Need to get the Most from the Sessions

Comfortable clothes.

Comfortable but upright seating.

Not to be disturbed during the session.

Try out the teachings during the week.

 

 

Regular Classes

The format tends to be: Meditation in the first half which is longer than on introductory courses and then an exploration of a theme in the second half. Themes can be one offs or last many weeks.

There is a friendly and welcoming atmosphere amongst people who are putting Buddhist principles into practice.

There is no booking and you are welcome to drop in anytime.
